When astronauts go into space and into zero-gravity environments, they have some very unfortunate and unhealthy effects. Worst of all, they begin to rapidly lose bone mass and muscle mass as a result. This has warranted NASA to develop technologies that simulate gravity and have used special weighted, whole-body-vibration technologies and treadmills. This allows the astronauts to rehabilitate while they are in space.
This is an integral part of the technology that already exists in the Windsor CBP Spine Center. The acceleration technology of the PowerPlate® can simulate greater gravity environments and cause a tremendous increase in strength, balance, coordination, and muscle activity.
Now, we are proud to announce the opposite and equally amazing technology is also available at the Spine Center! We had added a new, astounding technology to the facility, the Alter-G® Treadmill!
This technology allows us to lessen the effects of gravity and move rehabilitation and injury recovery at an accelerated pace. This amazing technology gives our therapists the ability to lessen the loads on tissues including ankles, knees, hips and low backs. The ability to remove gravity and force from the spine and lower extremities allows the body to resume natural walking patters, normal stride, and can assist in perfect recovery from sports injures, knee, hip and back surgeries. We can use the device to get people walking again!
Imagine if every time you took a step, the pain shot from the knee, or the hip, ankle or spine! This would, of course, prevent most people from walking and would affect walking patterns causing a limp. This limping can complicate the pain, making it worse and preventing a full recovery from the problem. Furthermore, the pain can then spread and what was a single joint injury can translate into problems elsewhere. These problems cannot be corrected if the normal biomechanics of the spine, posture and gait are not corrected. That is where this amazing equipment comes in!
We can now take a person who is unable to walk because of the pain associated with the injury or surgery and get them into a position of pain-free mobility and walking!
