viscous, very sticky, and literally turns into a glue-like paste. This paste clogs valves and makes movement
between parts nearly impossible. Do your
joints feel like this? Do you feel like
there’s glue in your low back every morning?

If you don’t change the tires on your vehicle, the tread will
wear down and acceleration and stopping will be affected, the ability to turn
quickly can be lost and the likelihood of a blow-out increases
significantly. Does your low back feel
like it’s on the verge of a blow-out? Have
you lost your agility?

If you don’t replace the shingles on your roof, mother
nature’s relentless onslaught will find its way into the cracks, ceilings can come
crashing down and you can lose the roof over your head. Does your headache make you want to replace
your head? Sorry, medical science hasn’t gotten that far yet. But we can help!

If you don’t brush and floss your teeth, you will get bad
breath, gum disease, and those little
buggies can make their way to your heart and increase the likelihood of you
getting heart disease and having a
stroke or heart attack. Do you floss your spine?

Maintenance is a critical component of most mechanisms,
whether it’s your house, your car or you!
If you have put the time and energy into correcting your spine and
posture, don’t you want to keep it? If you neglect regular maintenance visits
here at the Spine Center, it will catch up with you and pain and dysfunction
will return. I hate to say it but you’re
battling against gravity and gravity never stops working against you, always
trying to pull you back to bad habits and bad postures.

At the Windsor Spine and Wellness center, we have many maintenance
packages that make keeping your great spine changes easy and affordable, we are
very flexible with scheduling and will work with you to enable you to stay on
track. The last thing we want to see is
you lose the hard work and great gains you made in getting fit health and
having great posture!

If we haven’t seen you in a while and you are starting to
feel slow, having more pain, putting weight back on or just getting sick and
tired again, call us! We can work
together to get you back on track and it’s never too late to start changing
your spine, your posture and your body!

Food science has created some real frankenfoods over the last few decades. The goal of better preservation, better taste, color and consistency has led science to create many foods and food additives that would not normally be found in nature. Two of these additives that may have the most detrimental effect on your body is MSG and aspartame. MSG or Mono-Sodium Glutamate is a natural food byproduct that was first used by Asian cultures as a flavor enhancer. It causes almost any flavor to become more vibrant and taste better. However, it is really tricking your brain into thinking that the food tastes good, and it can have some serious consequences when consumed. It is most often found in processed foods, mass-produced snacks and is still used as a powerful food additive in some Asian and ethnic restaurants.
Aspartame is a science lab project that was created to replace sugar with a chemical that can be mass produced and used as a sweetener and flavor-enhancer. It is most often found in diet foods and diet soft drinks and has been shown to have multiple side effects that range from relatively benign to very serious.
Both of these food additives can trick the brain into thinking that something sweet is being consumed or that more calories than are actually in the food are consumed. This trick in the brain can have a consequences that actually lead to greater calorie consumption and an increase in cravings. When the body is expecting a caloric load from a food product to be used for energy to do activities and the actual food had been artificially modified to be “zero” calories, the body is stimulated to seek out other sources of calories. This can lead to binge eating and consumption of exactly the wrong types of foods.
These substances can also have very severe side effects from their consumption alone. Food allergy symptoms, irritability, headaches, visual disturbances, fuzzy thinking and confusion, and many other symptoms have been associated with the consumption of these artificial sweeteners and food additives. This, and the cravings that are stimulated by the additives, is the reason that I would avoid products that contain these additives.
If you notice that you experience a symptom following the use of a food; that is your body’s way of telling you that something is wrong with your choice. If you see that the repetitive use of a product containing MSG or aspartame is leading to headaches, dehydration, stomach ache or other digestive changes, you may be especially sensitive to the additive and consumption should be stopped immediately. We have seen many patients symptoms improve dramatically when they reduce the consumption of aspartame and MSG.
These products are quite prevalent in the food industry so it is very important that you read the labels of the foods that you consume to ensure that they are not “hiding” in your diet. IF you would like more information on the nutritional information that is provided by the Windsor Spine and Wellness center, please contact us to find out when our next complimentary nutritional lecture will be held. Remember that you are what you eat, and if you have health conditions that are chronic and not improving, it may be something that you are eating every day! By changing your diet and improving your overall physical fitness, chronic health conditions can often be reversed.
I love to exercise. I have not always been like this. I went several years, possibly a decade where I did very little exercise outside of the short hikes to the lakes I fish at. Now, my life and my body are completely different than they used to be. When our daughter was born, I gained almost 35 pounds of “sympathy weight.” This let me to be borderline hypertensive and I felt like a slow lazy slug. Since then, I have changed everything about how I eat, how I think and how I exercise.
I purchased many amazing fitness and rehab tools for my office because I wanted to help my patients become the people they want to be. I’ve seen miraculous transformations in hundreds of patients over the last several years and now the changes in both me and my patients are astounding. Combing the amazing results we get from the PowerPlate® and the core-shredding TRX® suspension training is beginning to transform my own body and the bodies of our patients in ways we never imagined.
The best aspect of this new training is the fact that we have the experience to custom tailor exercises and programs to fit the individual needs of our patients. This custom experience makes our facility very special to each and every individual we see. We have so many different ways to help people restore and regain their health!
If you have ever wanted to see what you can achieve in terms of health and fitness, we have ways to create a totally new you! Call us today to ask about our special offers and to see if you are a candidate for the amazing tools we have available at Windsor Spine and Wellness.
The Windsor Spine and Well Center is pleased to announce our latest arrival: The InBody 520 by BioSpace. This space-age technology is revolutionizing body composition testing and we are proud to be the only private facility in Northern Colorado offering this to our patients.
Essentially, the machine is a very special scale that has handles that are held during the analysis. The machine uses a micro-current to pass through the legs and arms and then the trunk and the data that is retrieved is astounding! We are able to see a complete body composition analysis including current weight, lean body mass, and body fat mass, and much more. The measurements then allow us to categorize patients into eight distinct body types from ideal composition to those that predispose the patient to an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke.
The InBody 520 also measures our body water balance. This enables us to see overall hydration, as well as the balance of water inside and outside the cells. If there are differences from the 3:2 ratio of intracellular water to extracellular water, then we are clued into possible mineral imbalances, inflammation and edema. The machine enables us to ensure that our dieters are consuming enough water, and what their bodies do with that water.
The InBody also gives a detailed analysis of obesity. Using BMI (Body Mass Index) and body fat percentage, we are able to see what range the patient falls into regarding their overall analysis of body composition. This is extremely important because this information has been documented to show the danger of acquiring multiple diseases as a result of poor body composition and obesity. The InBody 520 also is able to give us detailed information on segmental lean muscle analysis, differentiating between the arms, legs, and trunk. This information is incredibly important because those that carry too much abnormal body fat around their trunk are at a much greater risk of developing diseases associated with cardiovascular death.
This exciting technology will advance our understanding of our patients current and future health and will assist us in making clinical decisions that pertain to getting our patients to within normal limits if that is what they are trying to accomplish, accelerate weight and fat loss, and allow performance athletes to have a better understanding as to what is necessary to achieve their goals.
However, the best part about this our technology is that once we have the details of body composition, if there are places that need to improve, we have solutions! With our amazing Alter-G anti- gravity treadmill, our phenomenal PowerPlates, ™ the incredible weight and fat loss seen with the IdealProtein® program and the postural and structural changes associated with CBP® we are able to get people healthier than they ever imagined.
If you or someone you know wants to know exactly what your body is composed of, and if you want to change any abnormal readings we find, please don’t delay! Call us today to see if you are a candidate for the amazing service we offer at Northern Colorado’s Windsor Spine and Wellness Center!

There is much talk in the fitness and rehabilitation worlds about the importance of core muscle. Many people misconstrue that when someone says core strength they mean abdominal muscles. Although the abdominal muscles are part of the core of the body and it is very important to have strong abs, the true core muscles are much deeper.
The muscles around the spinal column in the lumbar and thoraco-lumbar spines are probably the most important skeletal muscles in our body. These muscles activate for nearly all tasks from walking to catching a ball. These muscles give not only stability to the bony and ligamentous structures, they are also packed full of very specialized nerve cells called mechanoreceptors. These mechanoreceptors are essentially pressure-sensitive and position-sensitive nerve endings that tell our brain the status and position of the muscles and thus the spine.
As we weaken the muscles of the low back, abdomen, and deep core, the muscles become infiltrated with fat. This fat causes numerous problems because it reduces the tiny muscles’ ability to communicate properly with the brain and movement pattern disruptions can result, leading to injury. The proper rehabilitation of the core muscles involves not only strengthening the large muscles of the abdomen, trunk and back, but also the tiny little muscles around the spine, in conjunction with a fat-targeting nutrition program.
There are numerous programs and exercises that claim to develop the “core.” Unfortunately many of these involve abdominal exercises and exercises that may not be an option for injured people. Thankfully, with the Powerplate® and IdealProtein®, we can address the fatty infiltration of the deconditioned muscles and perform exercises that cause 30-50 contractions per second in the important core muscles.
Our trainers and Physical Therapists are trained to create programs that address the specific needs of our patients and we are happy to see people who simply cannot exercise because of pain able to overcome and get back the strength necessary to lead normal active lives. The programs that we have on the Powerplate® have repeated demonstrated to our patients that they can get their strength, stability, endurance and stamina back to pre-injury levels, even when other therapies and treatments have failed.
The ultimate beauty of this is that we don’t stop there. We have our CBP® Spinal Structural rehabilitation protocols that can further assist in the improvement of the patient’s condition and enable not only a return of strength and endurance, but also a return to normal spinal position! The traction techniques and Mirror Image® techniques of CBP® give us the tools we need to address so many conditions that other techniques cannot help.
If you or someone you know is suffering from low back pain and dysfunction, or if you’ve had an injury that is not healing the way you would like, maybe we can help! If you want to get physically fit, lose body fat and improve your core strength in new a effective ways, we have programs that fit your needs. Call us today to see if you are a candidate for our amazing transformative rehabilitation and lifestyle tools.

Stress is an important part of our life. If we have no stress, we will not grow, change or advance. However, stress can become very overwhelming and it can begin to overpower our ability to cope and function. It seems that during this time of year, people are more stressed than ever, shopping, travelling, dealing with cold weather and many other small things can compound and make this holiday season not very fun.

Stress that motivates us and empowers us to change and grow can be an important part of the human experience. However, the coping mechanisms are not always taught to us and if the stresses begin to compound with each other, we will get less done, function at a level that is below our standards and unfortunately this can affect our mental and physical health.

It is important to remember that when our stress begins to elevate it, we must be aware that this is happening and take the proper steps to control our response. If you find yourself getting angry easily, or if you see that you are overly emotional or getting sick easier than usual, these can all be signs that the stresses in your life are getting the best of you. There are some simple things that need to be done in order to prevent stress from short-circuiting our lives.

First, breathe! Your breathing has an uncanny ability to calm you down. If you find that you are breathing at a shallow and accelerated pace, you will not be getting the vital oxygen to your tissues and this can increase the physical and mental stress of the situation. So slow down, take several deep belly breaths and focus on your breathing when you find yourself getting stressed. This simple tool can be profoundly effective at relaxing you and getting you to a calmer more peaceful state. The best part about using breathing to control stress is the fact that you can do this exercise anywhere, it’s easy and free!

Second, watch what you eat! It is too easy to reach for the junk food that seems to be everywhere this time of year. However, these “comfort foods” can really be a major source of artificial colors, loads of sugar and this combination of sugary junk food will only increase your levels of insulin and cortisol, increase your stress and reduce your resistance to bacteria and viruses. If you’re going to consume these holiday items, do it for one day only and make sure that is exactly what you want. If you are on the Ideal Protein program, it is also crucial that you resist these temptations, because it only takes one cheat to “kick” yourself out of ketosis and stop the fat burning process, talk about increased stress!

Third, Exercise! When you exercise you “burn off” excess energy that can create tension in your muscles and mind. You want to shoot for exercise 3-5 times per week with an emphasis on your heart rate. Try to exercise at an intensity of 75% of your maximum heart rate (220-age) and try to sustain this for 30-45 minutes. Exercise makes us feel better, improves sleep and is a great way to ensure that any excess calories consumed will not be converted to fat!

Next, don’t forget your spine! Remember that your spine houses your nervous system and your nervous system control the function of every cell, every tissues, every organ, and organ system in your body! If you have spinal abnormalities, this can create stresses that can lead to weakening of the nerves which can lead not only to pain but also to organ and tissue dysfunction. At the Windsor Spine and Wellness Center, we have tools that can get your spine back toward normal and decrease the stresses and strains on the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and most importantly, nerves.

Lastly, try to remember what this holiday season is about. If you keep your focus on thoughts like joy, love, family, God, children, your thoughts will help produce feel good chemicals in the amazing pharmacy that is your brain, and you will give yourself the mental boost that you need. Focusing on anger, fear, or even saying to yourself or aloud, “I’m so stressed!” will promote nothing but more stress. Thoughts are real chemical producing events that occur in your brain, so focus on good thoughts to create good things in your life

If you need someone to help you get through this season or if you want to see if you can benefit from the services we have here at the Windsor Spine and Wellness Center, please call! We can help!

We are very excited at the Windsor Spine and wellness Center to announce that we are teaming up with BodyMedia® and allowing our patients to truly monitor their health in real-time. BodyMedia® is a very special device that is worn on the arm and when coupled with a heart rate monitor, the device allows us to see what our body is doing “behind the scenes.” This monitor measures how well your body is functioning in terms of steps taken, calories burned, activity levels and even sleep patterns and efficiency.
The benefits of this device are not only accountability to yourself in terms of weight loss and knowing if you are exercising enough, it can also give you insight as to why you are tired during the day, how well you are doing compared to your peers and enables you to know exactly how many calories you are burning. The monitor connects to your computer and updates you as to your daily progress so that you can tract and see if you are really performing or achieving what you expect in terms of fitness and exercise.
Accountability is very important when one wants to lose weight or gain muscle and improve fitness parameters. This simple tool takes the guess-work out! By wearing the device over time, and imputing your foods consumed into the program, you can effectively tract to ensure that you are burning more calories than you take in, which will effectively lead to improved weight loss and better understanding of your daily physical performance.
At the Windsor Spine and Wellness Center, we can take this one step further. Our secure site enables us to tap into your monitoring data and track to make sure that you are making good choices in terms of food as well and getting enough steps, exercise and how effectively you are sleeping. If you give us this permission to be a part of your monitoring, we can be there with you to help you achieve your fitness and weight-loss goals.
This technology is revolutionizing weight-loss facilities across the county and at the CBP® Spine Center, we are very proud to be the beta-testing and research center for BodyMedia®. This allows us to provide the monitors for a significant discount as well as allows our doctors and coaches to truly know the health habits and goals of our patients. We can be there in your journey toward better health and wellbeing.
If you are interested in improving your overall health and would like to know how the Windsor Spine and Wellness center may be able to help, give us a call. We have many programs including physical therapy, CBP® spinal structural rehabilitation, weight loss, runners training, personal training, Powerplate technology, Therapeutic K-Laser treatments and much more! Call us today to see if you are a candidate for our amazing technologies and to see how we can help!

I have never like running. Even back in school playing football, I was a RUNNINGback and I hated to run. I always felt like the pounding was jarring my knees and my back and I never felt that elusive “runner’s high” that everyone talked about. So I didn’t run. Period.

Well, fast forward 25 years and I’m in great shape, I have low bodyfat, an excellent cardiovascular system and I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life and I never run! That is, until now.

A few months ago we acquired for the practice the Alter-G treadmill. This device is one of the most spectacular rehabilitation tools I have ever seen. A large inflatable bag goes around your waist and the machine calibrates your weight and the bag inflates. As it inflates, it effectively removes bodyweight so that you can walk, jog, run or sprint at a fraction of what your bodyweight would be on a regular treadmill, or on the street!

So now, I can run! I absolutely love the fact that I can run distances, run sprints and intervals, and there is no pain when I’m done! I usually run at about 70% of my bodyweight and this allows me to prevent the pounding and jarring that would occur if I was running on the street or on a regular treadmill. I never imagined that after so many years of never running and really hating it that I’m not only enjoying it, I LOVE IT!

There are many different people out there with many different health goals, fortunately, we have the tools that can help almost anyone achieve their health goals. If you are totally sedentary and just want to be able to walk without pain and suffering, we can help! If you are an athlete or a marathon runner and you’re looking to shave time, or reach the next level of competitiveness, we can help! The tools that we have at the Windsor Spine and Wellness Center can propel you to new heights in how you feel, how you look, and what you can do. We can transform your body!

We can help amputees get back to normal strides and gait, we can help those who have had a recent hip or knee replacement, lumbar disc injuries or pain and surgeries, and we can help so many more! If you know someone who is into competitive running, jogs for fun, or if you or a loved one is suffering from poor health, please contact us so we can see if you are a candidate for our amazing transformational technology!

One of the very dreadful complications associated with
diabetes is amputation of limbs and loss of vision. This complication occurs as
a result of circulatory problems that are made worse by abnormal fluctuations
in sugars in the bloodstream that can permanently damage the nerve
endings. The person loses normal
sensation to these areas, and this loss of sensation can lead to cuts and sores
which would normally cause pain, to not be painful. If these sores become
infected then to prevent the further spread of infection, amputation may be
necessary.

If this loss of normal circulation occurs in the eyes, the
optic nerve can be involved and this can lead to a progressive worsening of vision
and eventual vision loss. The best way to combat this from happening in
pre-diabetic and type 2 diabetics is to reverse the fundamental underlying
cause of the problem; Sugar!

Sugar is so prevalent in our American diets. We often see typical American dietary habits
include sugar for all meals and for all snacks.
Average Americans consume an incredible 150+ pounds of sugar, per person
per year! This is about 22 sugar packs per day!

This sugar causes our pancreas to produce insulin and when
more and more insulin is required, the cells that produce insulin eventually
stop working. Once they stop working,
the typical medical treatment approach is often medications and insulin
injections.

Fortunately, diabetes can be managed with diet. We at the Windsor Spine and Wellness Center
have an amazing program with IdealProtein®, and because this program is so
effective, we have patients tell us nearly every day that their prescribing
doctor too them off their diabetes medications!
We have see diabetes reversed in our patients again and again!

Furthermore, the Powerplate® has tremendous benefits for
improving circulation and sensation in diabetics and when we couple the
astonishing results of these two machines, the outcomes are amazing. We see patients with sensation loss, poor
circulation, and other effects of diabetic neuropathy able return to a healthier,
happier life as a result of our care.

If you or someone you know suffers from diabetes, poor
circulation, or peripheral neuropathies please let them know that there may be
a solution at the Windsor CBP Spine Center. Once our doctors determine that you
are a candidate for care, you could be on your way to feeling and looking better!
Don’t delay treating this very serious problem another day!
